By the end of 2018, 31 of our 78 packaging plants around the world had disposed of no landfill waste - an increase of 30 percent since 2013. Only 13 percent of Ball's total waste volume in 2018 was disposed of in landfills. Depositing waste poses a challenge in some regions, especially when landfill costs are low or when waste has to be transported over long distances for alternative treatment. Therefore, our long-term goal is to minimize landfilled waste if it is environmentally sound and economically viable.
